Following the engagement with Huprotec, H.E. Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson and the entourage visited the Lindt Chocolate Museum in Zurich, where the delegation was graciously granted special access despite large Easter holiday crowds.
The museum experience provided deep insights into the journey of chocolate - from cocoa cultivation to processing and final consumption. Her Excellency noted with pride that a significant proportion of the cocoa used in Swiss chocolate originates from Ghana. The Deputy Minister also recognized scenes from cocoa-growing areas featured in the museum as belonging to his constituency.
Through tasting sessions of chocolates produced using different historical processes, Her Excellency observed how processing methods influence flavour and quality, reinforcing the importance of value addition in Ghana’s cocoa sector.
She emphasized that the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) could draw valuable lessons from this model by establishing a similar cocoa museum and experiential center in Ghana to promote tourism and deepen appreciation of Ghana’s cocoa heritage.
In a similar vein, Her Excellency encouraged the Gold Board to consider developing a gold museum to showcase Ghana’s rich mineral heritage. She noted with satisfaction that steps are already being taken in this direction.
The visit also highlighted the importance of sustainable cocoa production, with shared responsibility across the value chain. Her Excellency further noted the growing global emphasis on responsible corporate practices, particularly in environmental protection and social well-being within supply chains.
She expressed optimism that such collaborative approaches will ensure that cocoa production remains economically viable, environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.
