Mar 30-2026
H.E. Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah visited Huprotec on 21 March, 2026 as part of the Ghana-Zurich Business and Cultural Expo engagements. She was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson, Daasebre Kweku Ewusi VII, Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Abeadze Traditional Area, Nana Obokese Ampah, Apagyahene of the Asebu State and other distinguished participants.
The visit provided valuable insight into innovative approaches to addressing water challenges. Her Excellency reflected on how, in the past, many communities relied on clean streams and rivers for drinking water, but over time, pollution from human activities - including improper waste disposal and mining - has significantly degraded these natural sources, affecting both surface and groundwater quality.
Huprotec’s technology captures moisture from the atmosphere through condensation and converts it into clean, safe drinking water. Her Excellency had the opportunity to test the system and noted with satisfaction that the water quality, including pH levels, meets both World Health Organization (WHO) and Ghana Standards Authority guidelines.
The system incorporates filtration processes that allow for mineral balancing tailored to specific needs. A typical household unit can produce up to 300 litres of water per day, while larger systems can generate up to 5,000 litres daily, making it suitable for homes, institutions and small communities. The technology can also be powered by solar energy, making it viable in areas with limited access to electricity.
Her Excellency emphasized the importance of revisiting sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting, which was once widely used in Ghana. She noted the need to rethink water management practices, particularly the separation of potable water from water used for sanitation and other household purposes.
She indicated that she will engage relevant institutions, including the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Water Resources Commission, to explore the potential of this
technology in Ghana. She further expressed encouragement that the Omanhene of Abeadze, who also serves as Board Chairman of the Water Resources Commission, participated in the visit.
Huprotec also indicated its readiness to collaborate with local partners in Ghana to train technicians for the construction, operation and maintenance of the systems.
Her Excellency noted that such innovative solutions will be critical in advancing sustainable water management and improving access to safe drinking water.
