H.E. Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah had the honour of chairing the third anniversary celebration of NDC Switzerland in Berne, which brought together members of the Ghanaian community and distinguished guests from across Europe and Ghana.
Among the visitors from Ghana were Hon. Joseph Tetteh Akuerteh, Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso and Mr. Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah of Ghana Gas. The event was also attended by Mr. Seth Anorson, Deputy Chairman of the NDC Branch for the UK and Ireland and Mr. Alhasan, Chairman of the NDC Zongo Caucus in France.
Her Excellency took the opportunity to thank members of the diaspora for their commitment and support during the elections. She noted that their dedication and love for Ghana continue to demonstrate the strong patriotic spirit that binds Ghanaians together, even while living abroad. She encouraged all present to remain united in the collective effort to build the nation, irrespective of political affiliation or ethnic background, emphasizing that Ghana is one and that everyone must work together towards building a stronger and better country.
The visitors from Ghana also briefed the gathering on ongoing developments in the country, including road construction, anti-corruption initiatives and skills development programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.
The occasion also brought moments of personal joy for Her Excellency as she met two of her former students from KNUST, where she once taught at the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre (RWESCK). She was equally delighted to reconnect with Mr. Adu-Gyamfi Poku, with whom she grew up in the same neighbourhood in Akim Oda, sharing fond memories of their childhood and the community they once knew.
During the interaction, Her Excellency encouraged members of the diaspora to instill Ghanaian values and culture in their children by teaching them Ghanaian languages, traditional dances and customs. There was also a suggestion to organize youth forums for children in the diaspora to help them remain connected to their heritage.
Families were further encouraged to uphold strong values of respect, love and unity within the home, recognizing the important role of the family in sustaining culture and community life.
The celebration ended on a joyful note with Ghanaian food and warm fellowship among members of the community.
Long live Ghana. Long live Switzerland.
