Following the visit to the University of Zurich on 25 February, H.E. Professor Mrs. Esi Awuah and her delegation continued to ETH Zurich, a federal university and one of the world’s leading institutions in science and technology.
The delegation was warmly received by the Rector (President), Prof. Dr. Günther Dissertori, together with Prof. Edoardo Mazza, Directorate of Educational Programs; Dr. Adina Rom, Executive Director; Dr. Sewoenam Chachu, Programs Manager; Ms. Anouk De Bast, Head of International Affairs; and Dr. Lukas Sigrist, Head of the School of Continuing Education.
The discussions focused on academic cooperation, innovation and opportunities for collaboration between Ghanaian institutions and ETH Zurich. Her Excellency expressed particular appreciation for the Student Project House, which provides students with opportunities to design and build practical solutions based on their ideas. This innovation-driven approach resonates with initiatives she previously introduced at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), where a Student Applications Laboratory was established to encourage practical problem-solving.
It was also a pleasure for Her Excellency to meet Ghanaian students and researchers at ETH Zurich, including Timothy Asare, a PhD candidate in Control Engineering and a former Electrical Engineering student of UENR. Their achievements continue to make Ghana proud.
Her Excellency noted with interest that many student innovation projects at ETH Zurich are supported through a combination of university funding and partnerships with private institutions, a model that offers useful lessons for strengthening innovation ecosystems in Ghana.
This engagement marks another important step in strengthening academic cooperation between Ghana and Switzerland.
