H.E. Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah received two Ghanaian retirees in their seventies, Dr. Abena and Dr. Kojo, both medical professionals, who paid a courtesy call at the Mission.

Their discussion focused on how members of the diaspora can support Ghana at this important time of national renewal and development. Her Excellency was pleased to learn that they have already made investments in agriculture aimed at supporting food production and industrial starch processing.

During the meeting, Dr. Abena shared her experience with a previous investment in the Ayensu Starch Factory at Bawjiase, which unfortunately collapsed. Her Excellency assured her that she would engage the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Gizella Tetteh, to explore possibilities for reviving this important industry. She has since communicated this concern to the MP’s office.

Her Excellency also raised the issue of the growing need for kidney dialysis equipment in her municipality, noting that communities are increasingly exposed to heavy metals from illegal mining (galamsey) as well as pesticide residues from poor agricultural practices. She emphasised that addressing these health challenges requires both greater awareness and improved medical support systems.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to meet again after the visitors have prepared a written proposal outlining their intended contributions and areas of collaboration.

Her Excellency also used the opportunity to inform them about the Ghana-Swiss Chamber of Commerce. Through a WhatsApp platform she created for the Ghanaian community in Switzerland, she has been sharing information about the Chamber and encouraging members of the diaspora to explore opportunities for collaboration in business, education, research and development partnerships between Ghana and Switzerland.

Although the Ghanaian population in Switzerland is relatively small, Switzerland continues to support important initiatives in Ghana through organisations such as Swisscontact, SECO and various private individuals.

Through the same community platform, Her Excellency has also invited Ghanaians in Switzerland to share information about their investments and philanthropic activities in Ghana so that the Mission can better support and coordinate these efforts.

She assured them that the Mission remains committed to supporting all meaningful development initiatives and investments that contribute to Ghana’s progress.
