H.E. Prof. Mrs. Esi Awuah attended the Ghana-Zurich Business and Cultural Expo, an initiative aimed at showcasing Ghana’s rich culture, trade and investment opportunities to the Swiss community.
The event brought together distinguished personalities from Ghana, including the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Assin North, Hon James Gyakye Quayson; Daasebre Kweku Ewusi VII, Paramount Chief of the Abeadze Traditional Area; Nana Obokese Ampah, Apagyahene of the Asebu State; and Mr. David Selassie Anthony, Personal Assistant to the Gold Board Chair. The Deputy Head of Mission, the Head of Chancery, and other Embassy officials were also present. Presentations were delivered by members of the Ghanaian delegation, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other key stakeholders, all focused on deepening Ghana–Switzerland relations.
Discussions at the Expo highlighted Ghana’s strong investment potential, including tax incentives, opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), facilitation of fund transfers and prospects within the gold sector. Issues relating to dual citizenship, the Ghana Card, education and skills development were also addressed.
A standout presentation was delivered by Dr. George Boateng (Kwame AI), a Ghanaian lecturer at ETH Zurich, who demonstrated innovative approaches to teaching coding to Ghanaian students from the primary level through to university. Her Excellency noted that such initiatives are critical to advancing Ghana’s digital transformation agenda and can significantly contribute to the vision of training one million coders and beyond.
Her Excellency expressed particular appreciation to Dr. Boateng for his generous offer of 100 scholarships for online coding training, to be shared between KNUST and UENR. She further highlighted the significance of naming the coding programme after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, describing it as a reflection of Ghana’s enduring legacy of innovation and leadership.
Her Excellency commended this contribution as a meaningful step towards building the next generation of Ghanaian innovators and reaffirmed her commitment, as Ambassador, to supporting such initiatives and facilitating collaboration with relevant institutions in Ghana.
