On 24 February, H.E. Professor Mrs. Esi Awuah paid a courtesy call on Monsignor Martin Joseph Krebs, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador to the Holy See.
They held a thoughtful and enriching discussion on the moral responsibility of humanity to protect the environment while pursuing economic growth, reflecting on the principle that the true value of the environment cannot be measured solely in monetary terms.
Her Excellency highlighted the importance of Ghana’s cocoa industry to the national economy and discussed the sustainability of trade relations with Switzerland, particularly in cocoa and gold. The conversation also touched on the importance of unity, trust, and integrity in global discourse, values that must underpin all human engagement.
Monsignor Krebs encouraged continued dialogue on responsible resource management and suggested learning from best practices in countries such as Finland, where gold is mined with strong environmental safeguards. Her Excellency expressed her intention to engage further on sustainable mining practices in this regard.
He also offered wise counsel, noting that patience is essential, as systems operate thoughtfully and deliberately for the collective good. Her Excellency expressed appreciation for his warm wishes and prayers for the success of her duty tour.
